Lovely evening yesterday when we met to discuss our first book. I am hoping that we will soon have some reviews from our first book for you to read. It is great to hear everyone's views about it. We all had different bits that we liked or disliked about the book.

Our next book will be Let's Roll: Ordinary People, Extraordinary Courage by Lisa Beamer. I will be ordering them next week but you can also get it from Amazon for the Kindle.

We will be meeting on 31st January to discuss this book.

Just one week until we meet for our first Book club. How are you getting on with the book? Did you enjoy the book, has it challenged you? I am really looking forward to chatting about it with you all
Anne

Here are the questions we will discuss on Thursday

  1. In one sentence what would you say this book is about?

  1. Did you enjoy the book?

  1. Who might enjoy or appreciate this book?

  1. What are some of the things you liked/enjoyed/appreciated about this book?

  1. What did you not like about this book?

  1. What are some of the things you learnt or gained a deeper understanding about after reading this book?

  1. Do you have a favourite quote (or quotes) from the book? What is it?

  1. Choose a passage (not too long) from the book that you found particularly helpful that you could read aloud to the group. Be ready to briefly explain what it was that struck you about the passage

  1. Perhaps some parts of the book were unclear or left you with questions. What are some of the questions that if you had the chance you would ask the author? Are there questions that you would like to discuss among the group, raise with older Christians or read further about in other books

10. After reading this book are there other books about this subject (or by this author) that you’re aware of and would recommend?

Restarting Barkham Church Book Club

We are restarting Barkham Church Book Club and hoping you will join us.  If you love reading then this group is for you. We meet every 2 or 3 months at someone's house to discuss the book we have just read and eat some yummy munchies. It is a great place to share our faith and learn together. We will be reading 4 books over the next year, a book about prayer, an autobiography, a book about the roles of men and women in the church and a fictional book. You can read all 4 or choose any that interests you. It is fine not to like a book and even not to finish it.

Our first book is:

A Praying Life – Connecting with God in a Distracting World by PaulMiller

Written like an organized blog, A Praying Life is an honest look at the difficulties of prayer, unanswered prayers, and successes in prayer. Readers will appreciate Paul Miller’s down–to–earth approach and practical nature. Parents will find his family–life experiences especially helpful.

We will be meeting at Liz Conaghan’s House at 8pm November 15th.

If you would like a copy of the book we have some available at £7 so do let Anneanne@thewhitefamilysite.org.uk or Liz conaghan@waitrose.com know.

We are looking forward to chatting about this book soon.

Love from Liz and Anne
